Privacy Policy
Plain-English summary: we don't store the VINs you decode, we don't require an account, and we only keep your email if you sign up for recall alerts. Full policy below.
VINs you look up
When you decode a VIN, your browser sends it to our service, which forwards the lookup to NHTSA's public APIs and returns the result. We cache the de-identified vehicle response (make/model/year data — not tied to you) to keep the service fast. We do not build a profile linking a VIN to you.
Email signups
If you sign up for recall alerts, we store the email address you give us so we can contact you. You can unsubscribe at any time, which removes you from our list. We never sell your email.
Analytics & affiliate links
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage. When you click an outbound affiliate link (history report or insurance), that third party may set its own cookies and apply its own privacy policy — we don't control those. Outbound paid links are labeled.
Your choices
- You can use every core tool without an account or giving us any personal data.
- You can unsubscribe from emails at any time.
- You can email info@vinsleuth.com to ask what we hold or to request deletion.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
