Reporting a data problem

VinSleuth shows NHTSA data as-is. If a recall or rating looks wrong, it may be a source-data issue — but tell us anyway and we'll verify. Where the fix belongs to NHTSA, you can also report it at nhtsa.gov.

Safety emergencies

VinSleuth is an information tool, not an emergency service. If you believe your vehicle has an urgent safety defect, contact the manufacturer or a dealer and stop driving if a recall advises it.

Primary data sources

  • NHTSA vPIC VIN decoding API
  • NHTSA recalls and safety-ratings data
  • NHTSA complaints and public vehicle datasets where shown
